Thanks to everyone for the tips and suggestions. I know I'm not the best, but I'm definitely not as terrible as this game would have me believe.Įdit: I'm really surprised how much visibility this post got. Maybe my opinion will change after having started a Story-level difficulty run, but the point of "Story" type difficulties was supposed to be for the person who has never picked up a video game before and needs a pass on difficulty, not a hardcore gamer with 10's of thousands of hours under his belt across a lifetime of gaming. I really feel like Nordic has ruined one of my favorite franchises.

I'm quite familiar with dodge mechanics, and animation locks, as someone who has put over a 1k hours into the Monster Hunter series this year alone. You also cannot interrupt most enemy attacks, so that's not an option, and to top it off, their attacks often track beyond the initial target (say a charged slam you dodge away from, only to get hit anyway).Īnd to the inevitable claim, no I'm not just button-mashing. The Dodge-Counter lacks any invulnerability frames, so you cannot dodge two enemies at the same time. There have been a number of encounters in which two enemies attack offset by ~0.1 seconds. I'm not opposed to difficulty, but to say this game is punishingly difficult is an understatement.

Rant Portion - Feel free to skip this, I feel better now. I was killed by a Skeleton Warrior two times before I finally figured him out, then made it to the Lava Brute where he ended me quickly, and I died again to the Skeleton Warrior, made it back to the Lava Brute to die again, and so the Groundhog's Day-esque turn of events came about.

The segment that made me almost throw my controller in rage, though, was after unlocking the Flames of Scorn, which saw me running the gauntlet just after you get it (I think it's in the Hollows) to the next Vulgrim spot about 15 times.

I beat Envy on first try, as you're expected to, but my first run-in with a Brood Mother took probably four attempts to finally get past, as did my fight with Wrath. So, back to Darksiders 3, I picked Balanced, since it falls on the lower-middle. I was typically okay with Heroic, but found it too slow of a pace for me to enjoy the storyline on a first-time playthrough. Going to Halo difficulty, though, I fall to the easier side of the spectrum if there isn't a middle option (Normal). Going back to the age-old Doom difficulty meter, I'd typically pick a middle-of-the-road difficulty like "Hurt Me Plenty", since "I'm Too Young To Die" makes the levels feel like a ghost town. I'm playing on Balanced difficulty at the moment, as is typical for most of what I do (play for fun with some challenge included), but after watching some YouTube videos discussing the difficulty I'm thinking of dropping down into Story difficulty, but I really feel like they've messed up the difficulty of this game. Should I drop it to Story difficulty, and is it just me that's having this trouble? After a measly three hours into the game, I'm over it and the punishing difficulty they've implemented. Now, as have most of you, I've been waiting for years to have Darksiders 3 come out, and of course I bought it only a couple days after it launched. I've always described it to friends as Darksiders 1 being perfect in every way, except it felt like it was over just as it was getting good, and Darksiders 2 was great but way too long and not enough sense of progression.

Followed it up by buying Darksiders 2 on launch day, plus all its DLC, and I think I also repurchased it on Xbox One just for kicks and to support the Devs. I got on to the series kinda late, buying the first Darksiders on a Steam sale for probably $10 or something and instantly fell in love with it. So I'm a HUGE fan of Darksiders, having spent ~150 hours thus far in the franchise. I know this is risking a downvote brigade, but no better place to ask a Darksiders question, unfortunately.
